DAYLIGHT
I love painting Sun-baked abandoned structures and crumbling walls swallowed up by sand and sage, barbed and unapproachable. What we've built and how time has reclaimed it always catches my eye.

“No man is give leave of that voice. The kid spat into the fire and bent to his work. I aint heard no voice, he said. When it stops, you’ll know you’ve heard it all your life.”

Going Places - Oil on Canvas 10x20 - Private Collection
Turning away from this pink palace in California's Wonder Valley I had to laugh after spotting a warped old Herb Alpert LP in the Creosote. Any record collector knows that you can find a Herb Alpert album in any collection, thrift store, garage sale... and apparently any abandoned homestead. The locals weren't there for comment, they'd moved on.
The Witness - Oil on Canvas 10x20 - Available
He sees it all day in and day out and just keeps doing his job. More like a daybreak painting but there you are. - Available Through Gallery
Ain't No Sunshine - Oil on Canvas 10x20 - Available
This jackrabbit homestead keeps watch in California's Wonder Valley, a place that has seen more wonderful days. A bachelor pad this close to LA might still run quite a pretty penny.
I See You - Oil on Canvas 10x20 - Private Collection
I visited this fixer upper expecting it to be empty. Most everything had been gutted and no paint was left on the walls save a makeshift sign that said "Deez Nuts." Loses something in the translation. A flash of movement in the upper window told me it was time to go, after all I didn't even bring a housewarming gift and I didn't want to be rude.
Sun Rises Red Rocks - Oil on Panel 5x7 - Sold
California's Red Rock Canyon State Park is beautiful contradictory angles, colors and creatures, full of things pointy or poisonous. The stillness of this place was amazing until midmorning, when the wind picked up and our paintings fell down. Back to the drawing board.
Lonesome, On'ry & Mean - Oil on Canvas 16x20 - Available
A solitary Joshua Tree brought to mind an old Country & Western song, as often happens for me.
Luz de mi Vida (Study) - Watercolor & Gouache on Paper 5x7
In a parched spot off of a long road there's a concrete cross with a small angel doll lashed to it surrounded by toys and plastic flowers bleaching in the sun.
Grimes Canyon - Oil on Panel 6x8 - Sold
Canyon walls crumble to dust and work their way back to the desert.
Rock Land - Charcoal on Toned Paper 5x7 - Available
Rocks break on rocks like waves on a shore. - Available Through Gallery
